Introduction

The world is full of stories. The challenge is to truly see them.

Documentary filmmaking, for us, begins long before the camera starts rolling. It begins with questions, conversations and time spent understanding the people and places at the heart of a story.

We are interested in the details that often go unnoticed: the rhythm of everyday life, the relationship between people and their surroundings, the memories they carry, and the changes taking place around them.

Our approach is observational and human-centred. Rather than forcing a story into a predetermined shape, we allow the people, their experiences and the reality of a place to guide the film.

Selected Documentaries

Films from real lives and lived experiences.

Every documentary begins somewhere different. Some emerge from a person’s journey, others from a place, a community, a tradition or a question that refuses to go away.

This collection brings together selected documentary projects from ADLINE.

HINGOT WAR

2018

The Hingot War is a centuries-old tradition observed on Dhok Padwa (the day after Diwali) in Gautampura, near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Two sides — the Turra of Gautampura and the Kalangi of Runji — hurl burning Hingots (hollowed wild fruits filled with gunpowder) at each other across a 200-foot battlefield near the Devnarayan Temple. Rooted in the Mughal-era Maratha guerrilla warfare of 1680-1707, this tradition has survived for over 300 years as a symbol of courage, faith, and community identity. People have been injured and lives have been lost — yet the ritual endures.

Our Approach

Stay long enough to understand.

We believe that meaningful documentary work comes from paying attention. Not every moment needs to be explained, and not every emotion needs to be underlined. Sometimes, a gesture, a pause or the sound of a place can tell us more than an interview ever could.

Observation

We spend time understanding the environment, the people and the everyday details that give a story its character.

Trust

We approach real people with sensitivity and respect. Their experiences are not simply material for a film; they are the reason the film exists.

Visual storytelling

We use images, sound, atmosphere and the natural rhythm of a moment to build a narrative that feels honest to the world it represents.

From First Question to Final Film

Every story finds its own way.

Research & Development

Understanding the subject, exploring its context and discovering where the story might lead.

Fieldwork & Filming

Spending time on location, meeting people and recording moments as they unfold.

Editing & Narrative

Finding the shape of the film in the material itself, allowing images, sound and lived experiences to come together.

Completion & Distribution

Preparing the film for its intended audience, whether through festivals, screenings, broadcast, digital platforms or other suitable channels.
